Casey Kaplan presents check to Navid Mootabar M.D. F.A.C.O.G. Chairman Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Northern Westchester Hospital

Our apotheosis comes when we can help focus attention and draw contributions to locally-related charities! It’s B&NC Mag’s best and highest use! And I’m pleased to report that B&NC Mag’s coverage and support results in gains for each of the locally-focused charities we’ve featured.

We’ve included editorial coverage of one and sometimes two or three charities in each of our issues over the last six years, and many of the charities we’ve covered have told us that immediately following the coverage they received a significant uptick in social media attention, and a substantial increase in donors and contributions. And beyond our editorial coverage, each year we support scores of charities by publicizing their upcoming events on our Instagram @bedfordnewcanaanmag and on the Calendar page of our website, bedfordnewcanaanmag.com, and by including pictures of their galas and events in our Out & About in each issue.

In addition, in 2025 we hosted a couple of events to benefit a few particularly worthy causes…

In June of 2025, we hosted a soiree at Darlington Manor in North Salem to benefit Stronger Than You Think, the charity founded by the incredible and inspiring Ali Truwit, who was our B&NC MAG May/June ‘25 Cover Feature. Stronger Than You Think provides prosthetics for women and girls in need and supports water safety and Paralympic sports, and I was proud to join the Board shortly after encountering Ali as our Cover. At the Darlington event, big donors such as Veronica & Bill ‘Coach’ Cowher, Monte & Angelina Lipman, Mitti & Melissa Liebersohn, Sam Fertik of Carbon Custom Builders, and a couple of anonymous givers, stepped-up to contribute to a raise that funded a prosthetic for Natalie, a high school Principal in a special needs school in Brooklyn who had lost her leg to a form of Sarcoma - and who was not being granted insurance coverage for the prosthesis she needed in order to get back to work and get back to living at home with her family. Today, Natalie is back to work, back living at home with her three children and husband, and preparing to run a 5k!

And, in October 2025, we sponsored a Tour Of The Steinhardt Property in Mt. Kisco - which was our 2025 ‘Homes Edition’ Cover Feature, with ticket proceeds going to benefit two charities: Welcome Baby, which we featured in the Nov/Dec ‘24 issue of B&NC MAG, and which provides low-income women giving birth with a care package that includes all the supplies their newborn will require during the first four weeks of life, and; the Mother & Baby Wing at Northern Westchester Hospital - the world-class healthcare facility right in our backyard.

The Steinhardt Property, called Iroki, is absolutely spectacular, and most notably includes an animal reserve with dozens of exotic species, and landscapes and follies transplanted from the far corners of the globe. …We sold out last year’s tour even though we scheduled two viewings.

It is my sincere honor to be able to help, and my heartfelt hope that each of you will be inspired to get involved with and support one or more of the locally-related charities we bring to your attention.
