Cocktail Party & Opening Reception: Art in Bloom
Art in Bloom is a juried exhibition featuring artists from the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association (KMAA) and local floral designers. The selected artworks will serve as the conceptual and visual point of departure for a floral design to be created in response to the artwork. Each pairing exists in dialogue, highlighting contrast, reinterpretation, and the dynamic relationship between permanence and impermanence as the floral works bloom and change over the course of the exhibition. Rather than treating the floral arrangements as decorative accompaniments, Art in Bloom positions them as interpretive responses that exist in active dialogue with the corresponding artwork on view. Juried by the Katonah Museum of Art’s Associate Curator Elizabeth Monti, the exhibition explores how ideas, materials, symbolism, and emotional tone translate between visual art and living, ephemeral forms.
Thursday, June 11, from 5:30-7:30 PM Cocktail Party and Opening Reception

This whimsically edgy comedy follows teenager Megan (Natasha Lyonne), whose suburban existence, filled with friends, cheerleading, and all-American fun is upended when her straight-laced parents suspect she may be a lesbian. In a panic, they send her to True Directions, a ‘rehabilitation’ camp run by the strict and prudish Mary (Cathy Moriarty), to mount an intervention led by counselor Mike (RuPaul Charles). Megan dutifully follows the program — until she develops feelings for another camper in this timeless, satirical romantic-comedy about self-acceptance and love, costarring Michelle Williams, Clea DuVall, and Julie Delpy. Introduced by Programming Associate, Eliana Choi.

She also faced the hardest challenge for any parent, losing her sixteen-year-old daughter, Penny, to complications from a rare genetic condition. After Penny's death, Kate knew she had a choice, she could lose herself to a grief so powerful she might not come back from it—or she could find another way through. Reimagining Grief is the result of that search. Drawing from her own experience, the latest research, and conversations with others who have faced devastating loss, Kate offers five actions that can help ground you when you feel out of control, lift you when you're depleted, and help you process the pain of loss. This ongoing series, offered weekly, is led by Grace Farms Arts Educator Nancy Jameson. Recommended for ages 4-11 with adult caregivers.

Classic Tuesday: Lust For Life (1956)
Vibrant orange sunflowers. Rippling yellow grain. Trees bursting with white bloom. "The pictures come to me as in a dream," Vincent Van Gogh said. A dream that too often turned to life-shattering nightmare. Winner of Golden Globe and New York Film Critics Best Actor Awards, Kirk Douglas gives a fierce portrayal as the artist torn between the joyous inspiration of his genius and the dark desperation of his tormented mind. The obsessed Van Gogh painted the way other men breathe, driving away family and friends, including artist Paul Gauguin (1956 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award winner Anthony Quinn). Directed by Vincente Minnelli and saturated with the hues of Van Gogh's sea, field and sky, Lust for Life captures the ecstasy of art. And the agony of one man's life.

AMERICA ABROAD: Art, Architecture, and Diplomacy - Works from the FAPE Collection
Presented on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 40th anniversary of the Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies (FAPE), the exhibition offers rare public access to artworks typically seen only at US embassies—spaces not generally open to the public—and explores how art and architecture have shaped the United States’ diplomatic presence abroad from the Cold War to today. It draws from FAPE’s Site-Specific, Print, and Photography collections and includes maquettes of sculptures commissioned for major embassies, as well as works by leading American artists including Carmen Herrera, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Roy Lichtenstein, Julie Mehretu, Martin Puryear, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha, Joel Shapiro, Frank Stella, Carrie Mae Weems and many others. A replica of the 1823 William J. Stone engraving of the Declaration of Independence—gifted from David M. Rubenstein to FAPE in 2013, one for each US embassy—will also be on view. A parallel section focuses on the evolution of US embassy architecture, featuring buildings designed by leading mid-century architects such as Edward Durell Stone and Walter Gropius, alongside more recent contributions by firms including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and KieranTimberlake, among others.

The music Louis Armstrong created in the 1920s with his small group, the Hot Five, remains among the most influential, timeless, and joyous in the history of American music. Under the auspices of the Louis Armstrong House Museum, and on the eve of what Armstrong always claimed to be his birthday (the Fourth of July), trumpeter Alphonso Horne will lead an all-star ensemble of today’s finest jazz musicians in celebration of the 100th anniversary of this groundbreaking group. Hosted by two-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Riccardi, the evening honors the recordings that transformed jazz from a collective style into a soloist’s art form—forever changing the course of popular music. While Armstrong is celebrated worldwide as the beloved entertainer behind classics like “What a Wonderful World” and “Hello, Dolly,” it was these revolutionary recordings from a century ago that reshaped the sound and future of jazz.

Cult Classic: In the Mood for Love (2000)
Hong Kong, 1962: Chow Mo-wan (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung Man-yuk) move into neighboring apartments on the same day. Their encounters are formal and polite—until a discovery about their spouses creates an intimate bond between them. At once delicately mannered and visually extravagant, Wong Kar-Wai’s In the Mood for Love is a masterful evocation of romantic longing and fleeting moments. With its aching musical soundtrack and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping-bin, this film has been a major stylistic influence on the past 25 years of cinema. Includes the bonus short "In the Mood for Love 2001" after the film. Part of our Cult Classic series—introduced by Programming Associate, Eliana Choi.

ANDREW DICE CLAY: LIVE IN CONCERT
Andrew Dice Clay is proud to be one of America’s most controversial and outrageous comics. Quite simply, Dice is a Rock and Roll comedy legend. When he released his debut album, Dice, the parental advisory label simply read “Warning: This album is offensive.”
Despite media backlash, Dice’s rise to fame was nothing less than meteoric, creating “Dicemania.” He’s sold-out hundreds of arenas all across the country and was the only performer ever “Banned for Life from MTV” (a ban which has since been lifted).
Dice has released numerous gold and platinum-selling albums including the Rick Rubin-produced The Day The Laughter Died (among the five releases Rubin produced for Dice); best-selling DVDs (Dice Rules!); and also starred in several one-hour HBO, pay per view, and Showtime stand-up specials including No Apologies, The Diceman Cometh, and Indestructible.
Dice’s career has experienced a resurgence including his recurring role on the final season of Entourage (2011). He starred to great critical acclaim alongside Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (2013); in Martin Scorsese’s Vinyl (2016); in the award winning, blockbuster hit, A Star Is Born (2018) alongside Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga; and most recently in Hulu’s Pam & Tommy. His other notable TV credits include two seasons (2016-2017) of his Showtime series, called Dice, very loosely based on his own life.
In 2014, Simon & Schuster published Dice’s brutally honest, unapologetic, and uncensored autobiography The Filthy Truth, in which Dice chronicles his remarkable rise, fall, and triumphant return.
Currently, Dice’s “on the street” videos on Instagram and TikTok have resulted in him being hailed as a contemporary cultural phenomenon tackling the modern zeitgeist. He is now in discussions with production companies to take these videos to television.
Live Music: Ari Hest
Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ari Hest has built a remarkable career—first gaining a devoted following through college touring, then releasing major-label albums, and later pioneering fan-driven projects like 52 and The Treehouse Project on Patreon. Over two decades, he’s performed with artists such as The Indigo Girls, Martin Sexton, Judy Collins, and Suzanne Vega, with his songs featured in The Path, The Lincoln Lawyer, Private Practice, Army Wives, and One Tree Hill. His ongoing Treehouse Project delivers a new song every two weeks, with fans voting on favorites for annual album releases—now approaching 100 original songs in its fourth year.
Allen Stone Live
Allen Stone, a soul/R&B luminary, has enraptured global audiences with his electrifying performances and soulful melodies, embodying the essence of classic soul legends. His genre-defying style, blending funk, gospel, folk-rock, and soul, has garnered critical acclaim and a devoted following.
Stone’s journey to musical stardom commenced in Chewelah, Washington, where his upbringing immersed him in gospel music as a pastor’s son. Relocating to Seattle, he tirelessly toured the West Coast in his ’87 Buick, swiftly gaining acclaim for his dynamic live shows, often playing up to 200 dates annually alongside luminaries such as Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Dave Matthews Band, Erykah Badu, and Gary Clark Jr. Notably, Stone recently hit the road with Chris Stapleton, further solidifying his status as a tour de force in the music industry.
Alongside his prolific touring schedule, Stone has graced national television screens and mentored on ABC’s American Idol, underscoring his esteemed position in the music realm. Stone continues to garner critical acclaim with his latest body of work, Mystery, featuring the title track in collaboration with PJ Morton. This release brings infectious rhythms and emotional depth, solidifying Stone’s place as a powerful voice in modern soul music.

In Fairfield County, more than 33,000 children are not sure where their next meal will come from. Most will get breakfast and lunch from school every weekday, but many will go from Friday lunch until Monday at breakfast without a decent meal. Founded in 2013, Filling in the Blanks is an organization that fills in those weekend gaps by providing each child in its program with a bag filled with healthy, easy-to-prepare food for the weekend. When the obstacle of food insecurity is removed, children experience increased academic achievement in school and greater opportunities for success in their lives. FITB continuously serves 10,000+ kids at over 200 sites throughout Fairfield, Westchester, and Putnam counties. FITB has also established four in-school pantries and in 2023 launched the Fresh Food On The Move mobile pantry that provides families with fresh produce, veggies, proteins and other staples, as well as health and wellness services.
Classic Tuesday: The Day of the Locust (1975)
Nathanael West’s novel about Hollywood decadence in the late ’30s is a brilliant piece of filmmaking. A deeply insightful work that is powerful in its presentation, staggering in its vision. Director John Schlesinger is masterful in creating a world of platinum blondes, cockfights, glamour and broken dreams. And throughout, he plays on the edge of sexual and physical danger which finally erupts in the shocking climax. Oscar nominations went to Burgess Meredith and cinematographer Conrad Hall. Part of our Classic Tuesday series—introduced by Artistic Director, Dan Friedman.

eason Opener | Teresita Fernández
Internationally acclaimed artist Teresita Fernández joins us in the Sanctuary for a conversation with Grace Farms Founding Creative Director Chelsea Thatcher to discuss her studio practice, research, materials, and site-specific work, Double Glass River (2015), which has become an integral part of Grace Farms.
Created in relationship with the River building and nature in 2015 during the period of the building’s construction, Double Glass River, resembles an undulating galaxy of 10,000 mirrored glass cubes and expands horizontally across the curved wall at the end of the Commons. Depending on where the viewer stands, the shining reflection constantly alters, and engages the viewer in many places along the grounds. The work urges the audience to reflect upon themselves and their relationship to a changing landscape.
Fernández and Thatcher’s conversation will be preceded by a short solo viola recital by award-winning Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak to open the season’s music program, with a focus on the contemplative and active dynamics of peace.
An Evening with Samantha Bee
Join us September 19, 6-9 PM at the Country Club of Darien for seasonal cuisine, meaningful conversation, and an evening that matters. It’s our community gathering around the table to ensure displaced children have access to education, healing, and hope.
WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS: AN EVENING WITH EMERSON, LAKE, AND PALMER
Created by Carl Palmer and his management, the show will be presented with the full cooperation of the Estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. THIS IS NOT A TRIBUTE ACT- THIS IS THE REAL THING. Through modern technology they will reunite the band: Carl with his two bandmates, playing together along with Keith Emerson & Greg Lake, who both passed away in 2016. The show combines video performance of Emerson and Lake from a legendary sold out ROYAL ALBERT HALL ELP show from 1992 with live on stage performances of Carl Palmer with his own ELP Legacy band (Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick).
All the musicians play together in sync to present a complete and authentic Emerson, Lake & Palmer show.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer (informally known as ELP) was an English progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1970. The band consisted of Keith Emerson (keyboards) of the Nice, Greg Lake of King Crimson (vocals, bass, guitar, producer), and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster (drums, percussion). With nine RIAA-certified gold record albums in the US and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide, they are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock groups of the 1970s, with a musical sound including adaptations of classical music with jazz and symphonic rock elements, dominated by Emerson’s flamboyant use of the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano (although Lake wrote several acoustic songs for the group).

Bedford Field Notes: Bugs
Join us for a lively discussion about Bugs—the smallest, and possibly most critical, creatures in Bedford's ecosystem.
The evening will feature Dr. Jessica Ware, award-winning curator at the American Museum of Natural History where she serves as Chair of the Division of Invertebrate Zoology. The world of insects is far more fascinating—and far more important—than most of us realize. Dr. Ware will introduce us to the astonishing diversity of insects that share our landscapes, from bees and butterflies to dragonflies, beetles, and ants. She and Mianus River Gorge’s Dr. Chris Nagy will explain why these tiny creatures play an outsized role in healthy ecosystems—pollinating plants, recycling nutrients, and supporting the food web. Bedford residents will leave with a new sense of curiosity about the insects they encounter every day, and a clearer understanding of how our choices—from gardening to land stewardship—affect the smallest members of our local ecosystem. The event will close with audience Q&A.
Dr. Ware is the author of "Bugs (A Day in the Life): What Do Bees, Ants, and Dragonflies Get up to All Day?", a children's book about bugs. Books will be available for sale and signing.
The evening will be moderated by David Pogue, the Emmy Award–winning journalist, author, and television host best known for his work with CBS Sunday Morning, The New York Times, and NOVA. A Bedford resident, Pogue brings curiosity, clarity, and wit to conversations that bridge science, culture, and everyday life.
