The Remembrance Ball & Parade
As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Cannon Ridge Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is honored to extend an invitation to a commemorative evening in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Cannon Ridge Chapter will host the Remembrance Ball at the historic Lounsbury House. This black-tie gala commemorates our Nation’s Semiquincentennial, pays tribute to those who fought for American independence, and respectfully honors all sacrifices made at the Battle of Ridgefield.
Gold’s Dragoons of Westport will be joining us to pay tribute to the great-grandson of their founder and fellow Gold’s Dragoon, Patriot Lieutenant Colonel Abraham Gould of Fairfield, who was killed in action as he led his men during some of the fiercest fighting of the Battle of Ridgefield. Keith Marshall Jones III, author and the definitive voice of the Battle of Ridgefield, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
The evening will feature an exceptional dinner prepared by Chef Forrest Pasternack, trained at the Culinary Institute of America. The menu will be rooted in the revolutionary era and inspired by the storied hospitality of George and Martha Washington. Thereafter, guests will be invited to dance, and to participate in a charitable bidding, reflecting the long-held tradition of society assembling in fellowship and service to the common good.
Proceeds from the Remembrance Ball will remain local to Connecticut and New York and will support the Cannon Ridge Chapter’s charitable initiatives in education, patriotism—particularly service to veterans and their families—and historic preservation.
We would be delighted by the pleasure of your company and hope you will join us for this meaningful occasion.

Passive Cooling Revisited: Window Awnings as a Climate Strategy for Historic Buildings
Join the Onera Foundation for a presentation by preservation research fellow Anne Maxwell Foster, Passive Cooling Revisited: Window Awnings as a Climate Strategy for Historic Buildings.
Once integral to how buildings responded to summer heat, window awnings have largely disappeared from the contemporary built environment—despite their proven effectiveness. This talk revisits the awning as a forgotten but powerful tool for passive cooling, demonstrating how exterior shading can reduce indoor temperatures, improve thermal comfort, and significantly increase energy efficiency in existing buildings. Combining architectural history, building science, and energy performance analysis, Foster brings together established scholarship with new technical findings to reassess the awning’s potential role in addressing today’s climate challenges. The presentation begins with a richly illustrated overview of the rise and fall of window awnings in New York City’s architectural history, situating them within broader cultural, technological, and regulatory shifts.
Technical questions of performance and effectiveness are then explored through a focused case study of a 1901 apartment building in Harlem, where energy modeling reveals measurable reductions in cooling demand. Building on this work, Foster introduces expanded research supported by the Onera Prize for Historic Preservation, extending the methodology beyond a single building to evaluate the potential impact of awnings across a range of historic building typologies throughout New York City.
By translating technical findings into accessible guidance for preservationists, architects, building owners, policymakers, and the public, the research ultimately calls for a renewed understanding of awnings as a practical, low-impact climate strategy—and highlights their overlooked role in shaping a more sustainable future for historic buildings.
Classic Tuesday: The Fisher King (1991)
Robin Williams, Jeff Bridges, Amanda Plummer and Mercedes Ruehl star in Terry Gilliam's must-see comic masterpiece. Williams is Parry, a homeless history professor who lives in a fantasy world full of castles, Red Knights and damsels in distress. Bridges co-stars as Jack, New York's #1 shock deejay, whose off-hand arrogance triggers a tragedy which ruins his career. Penniless and without prospects, Jack finds himself plucked from disaster by the most improbable of saviors... Parry. And so the amazing story of the Fisher King unfolds a modern quest for redemption and the Holy Grail, filled with humor, heartbreak and ravishing romance.

Patrick Alston: Apertures
Heather Gaudio Fine Art is pleased to present Patrick Alston: Apertures, his first solo exhibition at the gallery. The new paintings featured in the show continue the artist’s signature vocabulary that focuses on a visual exploration of color and gesture. The show will open with a public reception on May 2nd, 4 -6pm, and runs through June 13th.
“Patrick Alston’s paintings ask something genuine of the viewer — they require engagement, attention, stillness and a willingness to sit with uncertainty. That kind of work is rare, and we are honored to be able provide that viewing experience to audiences here in the gallery,” states Heather Gaudio.
Apertures builds from an understanding of perception as something both deeply personal and collectively shared, shaped through gesture, color, and accumulated layers that hold traces of time, decision, and revision. These are echoed by the philosopher Alan Watts’ statement: “you are an aperture through which the universe looks out.”
Alston’s process begins in a state that is largely uncontrolled, with initial washes that move across the surface without a fixed image in mind. The artist establishes a palette and a loose sense of composition through instinct rather than intention. These early moments carry a degree of chance, where the painting is not yet defined but full of potential. From there, the work is gradually refined. Marks are added, obscured, reworked, and adjusted over time, as the painting moves between uncertainty and clarity. This process mirrors something fundamental about lived experience. “We enter the world without authorship over our initial conditions, shaped by circumstance, environment, and forces outside of our control. Over time, through action, reflection, and resistance, those conditions are negotiated and reformed,” states Alston. The paintings hold that tension between what is given and what is made, where randomness and intention remain in constant dialogue.
For Alston, color functions as a vehicle for experience rather than description. Relationships between hues create moments of tension, resistance, and harmony that feel familiar but stay open. In this way, color relationships begin to mirror the interactions we encounter in life, where there is a constant push and pull, a resistance and a harmony, an ebb and a flow that reflects the complexities of what it means to be human. Gesture records a presence, but never settles into a fixed meaning, allowing space for the viewer to enter and locate themselves within the work. Layers act as shifting lenses, where what is revealed and concealed continues to change depending on perspective and how long one looks.
Each canvas holds a finite experience. There are limits in its dimensions, in the number of gestures it can contain, in the layers it can sustain before reaching a point of resolution. The painting arrives at a kind of conclusion, a boundary that cannot be exceeded. In this way, each work echoes the conditions of an individual life, shaped within constraints, unfolding over time, and ultimately held within a fixed span.
To enhance the viewing experience in the exhibition, the artist created a set of colorful stools intended for viewers to comfortably sit and spend time contemplating the paintings. Mounted on wheels for easy navigation around the gallery space, the seats can be moved and situated in front of each work, giving the audience the opportunity to spend as much time in front of a painting as they wish. Viewers are invited to recognize both the specificity of their own perspective and the possibility of shared experience that exists beyond it. “What we see, feel, and understand is never static, but shaped by time, memory, and context. There is a quiet sense of onism that emerges, the awareness that we are each confined to our own singular point of view.” With this slow approach to viewing the artist hopes that each work becomes a separate aperture, a distinct experience, a different set of conditions and emotional registers. Moving between them allows for a shifting perspective, an opportunity to step outside of oneself, if only momentarily. In this way, the paintings operate as both individual expressions and as part of a larger field, where meaning is not prescribed but emerges through attention, reflection and the act of looking.
Alston has been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in the United States and abroad and his works are in many notable public, private and corporate collections.
Heather Gaudio Fine Art specializes in emerging and established artists, offering painting, works on paper, photography, and sculpture. The gallery provides a full range of art advisory services, from forming and maintaining a collection, to securing secondary market material, to assisting with framing and installation. The focus is on each individual client, selecting art that best serves his or her vision, space, and resources. The six exhibitions offered every year are designed to present important talent and provide artwork appealing to a broad range of interests. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday; 10:30am to 5:30pm; and by appointment.

Everyone Has A Story To Tell
Have you ever thought or even said, “Who’d be interested in my story?” If so, this discussion is for you.
From the moment Celia took on the unlikely task of writing a memoir, that very question poked at her. It made appearances at all hours, in all decibels and velocities. It dared her to jump off the ledge because, “Who do you think you are?” echoed. She soon recognized that she’d been harassed and harangued by those sharp words all her life. They had convinced her to abort so many of her important creative pursuits.
Celia will lead a conversation about her powerful memoir, Telling, and how she managed the obstacles that could have canceled the very project that brought her peace. Being in the seventh decade of her life, she hopes to be an example that it’s never too late for dreams to come true.

Tapper is the author of How to Love a Forest, an internationally-acclaimed work that blends science, history, and personal experience to challenge conventional ideas about “good” and “bad” nature, invasive species, and what responsible stewardship really means. Through his writing, public speaking, and large online following, Tapper has become a leading advocate for a more honest, ethical, and adaptive approach to caring for forests.
He will be joined by Rod Christie, the long-serving Executive Director of the Mianus River Gorge, and a deeply respected conservation leader whose work has shaped land protection, stewardship practices, and public understanding of the Hudson Valley’s natural landscapes. The event will close with audience Q&A.
Copies of Ethan Tapper's bestselling book, How to Love a Forest, will be available for purchase and signing.
The evening will be moderated by David Pogue, the Emmy Award–winning journalist, author, and television host best known for his work with CBS Sunday Morning, The New York Times, and NOVA. A Bedford resident, Pogue brings curiosity, clarity, and wit to conversations that bridge science, culture, and everyday life.

Climate Wayfinding and Human Nature with Dr. Katharine Wilkinson and Dr. Kate Marvel
The Women’s Wolfpack is presenting a unique opportunity to hear two visionary climate communicators about our world.
Dr. Katharine Wilkinson’s latest book Climate Wayfinding: Healing Ourselves and the Planet We Call Home will be published on May 5th. Admission to this event includes a signed copy of Climate Wayfinding. When maps come up short and the path ahead is uncertain, how do we find our way? In her new book Dr. Katharine Wilkinson offers a compassionate and empowering guide for navigating through ache to action, doubt to possibility. Whether we’re steeped in climate or newly curious, we can look inward with care, outward with curiosity, and forward with courage to shape our unique contributions.
Dr. Kate Marvel’s book, Human Nature: Nine Ways to Feel About Our Changing Planet explores climate change through nine emotions (wonder, anger, guilt, fear, grief, surprise, pride, hope, and love) to connect the science with human experience, blending scientific facts with personal reflections, history, and mythology. Published in June 2025, the book uses these emotions as a framework to discuss the science, history, and future of our planet, making complex climate issues more accessible and visceral.
Join both of these renowned climate communicators and authors for a presentation, conversation together and an opportunity to connect with a kindred community. Dr. Marvel’s book will be on sale and available for signing during the Reception after the event.

HEAR ME OUT: SETTING THE TABLE” IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MEALS ON WHEELS
The Ridgefield Theater Barn (RTB) continues its Hear Me Out storytelling series with its second installment, Hear Me Out: Setting the Table, on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 37 Halpin Lane. This unique evening of live storytelling and shared community experience will spotlight and support Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield (MOW), bringing together powerful personal stories and a meaningful culinary connection.
Following the success of the inaugural event, The Steeple, which benefited St. Stephen’s Church, this next event invites audiences to gather around the universal theme of food—how we nourish ourselves, connect with others, and create lasting memories through shared meals.
In RTB’s intimate, cabaret-style setting, six storytellers—three from Meals on Wheels and three from the community—will share true, personal stories inspired by the theme: Setting the Table. The format is inspired by The Moth StorySLAMs and The Moth Radio Hour, blending humor, heart, and authenticity in an engaging, live experience.
The evening will be co-emceed by Peter Bachmann and Amanda Gabbard. Bachmann, who has performed at storytelling events throughout New York and Connecticut, trained with Bonnie Levison of The Moth’s MothWorks program. Together, Bachmann and Gabbard will guide audiences through an evening of connection, reflection, and community.
In keeping with the theme, patrons will enjoy a thoughtfully prepared dinner provided by MOW, designed to demonstrate what clients receive—offering not only a delicious meal but also a deeper understanding of the organization’s mission and impact. Dessert and post-show conversation with the storytellers will follow.
“Meals on Wheels is pleased and grateful to partner with the Ridgefield Theater Barn to share these important stories more widely,” said Peter Bachmann. “We’re also thankful for the guidance of Bonnie Levison, who has helped shape this event.”
RTB Executive & Artistic Director Pamme Jones added, “We are thrilled to co-produce Hear Me Out: Setting the Table. Our expanded space allows us to serve as a true community arts hub, and we are honored to partner with MOW to highlight the vital work they do in Ridgefield.”

Finding the Language for Your Work. An interactive workshop with Corrie Jackson
Join Yellow Studio and Corrie Jackson, writer and editor on Thursday, May 14 at 10am for an interactive workshop: Finding the Language for Your Work. Clear Words for Your Website, Bio, and Beyond.
Writing about your work can be surprisingly difficult. Many creatives and small business owners know exactly what they do—until they have to articulate it for a website, bio, or social profile. The result? Flat, vague language—and a missed opportunity to connect with the right audience.
Corrie will share an editor’s approach to sharpening the language around your work or business. We’ll uncover how vague phrasing sneaks in, develop the one-sentence anchor that makes describing what you do dramatically easier, and explore how to write for someone new to your work or business. Participants are invited to bring a short piece of writing—such as a website introduction, bio, or statement—and we’ll refine it together through live editing.
You’ll leave with clearer language, and the tools you need to communicate what you do with confidence.

Filling in the Blanks 13th Annual Golf Outing
Join Filling in the Blanks for our 13th Annual Golf Outing! Hosted at the esteemed GlenArbor Golf Club, this year's event includes a day full of golf, lunch & dinner, a silent auction, and an exciting live paddle raise!
Filling in the Blanks is a non-profit organization that fills the weekend meal gap for children who qualify for the free or reduced school meal programs. By providing a bag filled with healthy food for the weekend, children experience increased academic achievement and a greater increase of success.
Our mission at FITB is simple yet profound: to provide weekend meals to children facing food insecurity. Through our weekend meal program and school-based pantries, we currently support over 10,000 children weekly across Fairfield, Westchester and Putnam Counties. Additionally, we've recently launched The Fresh Food on the Move Mobile Pantry, which has already distributed over 1 million pounds of food to local families in need, primarily in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford. With the demand for our services steadily rising and less than 1% of our food being donated, events like the Golf Outing are vital in sustaining our programs.
The evening will help raise funds to support Filling in the Blanks' mission to fight childhood hunger in local communities.
We look forward to seeing you on the greens in 2026!

Film + Q&A on Postpartum: More Than Blue
More Than Blue is a groundbreaking new documentary that illuminates the faces and voices of postpartum depression across America. Through the real stories of families across the country, the film shines a light on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders – too often unseen, unheard, or misunderstood. While we have come a long way over the last decade in terms of screening patients, most individuals experiencing conditions like postpartum depression, anxiety, or psychosis still go undiagnosed or untreated. Pairing personal stories with expert insights, the film aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure mothers receive the care they need to recover and heal. A panel discussion and Q&A follows the film.

Listen To The Movie: Heavy Metal (1981)
Based on the fantastical illustrated magazine HEAVY METAL, producer Ivan Reitman enlists the help of some of Hollywood's animation masters to create the otherworldly tale of a glowing green orb from outer space that spreads destruction throughout the galaxy. Only when encountered by its one true enemy, to whom it is inexplicably drawn, will goodness prevail throughout the universe. Richly and lavishly drawn, the vignettes of the orb's dark victories include the character voices of John Candy, Harold Ramis and a pounding soundtrack by Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Devo, Donald Fagen, Don Felder, Grand Funk Railroad, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Nazareth, Stevie Nicks, Riggs, and Trust. Highly imaginative and full of surprising special effects, HEAVY METAL set the standard for the alternative contemporary animation. An intoxicating experience not to be missed! Part of our Listen to the Movie series, the screening will be followed by a Q&A with local musician Rob Cavenagh, exploring the film’s legendary soundtrack.

Historic Grainger + Peony Gardens
As part of the national commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, The Glass House will, for the first time, open the 1783 Grainger House and its celebrated peony and iris garden for public tours. The house sits on one of New Canaan’s earliest registered land parcels and was originally known as the Finch House, named for the early New Canaan family who farmed the land.
Purchased in 1990 by David Whitney, partner of Philip Johnson, the house has been carefully restored to its 18th-century form. Whitney furnished the home with significant modernist art and design, elements that remain on view today, including a striking window etching by artist Michael Heizer. He also created a remarkable garden, planting a rare collection of perennial peonies and irises, and installing a sculpture by artist Alessandro Twombly.
Together, the house and garden vividly illustrate the dialogue between early American architectural traditions and the 20th-century art and design that define The Glass House.

Opening Reception: Fiber Forward
The Gallery at Yellow Studio invited women and non-binary artists to submit work that challenges conventional perceptions of fiber art. We selected work demonstrating innovative approaches that expand the medium’s possibilities; work that complicates boundaries between decoration and concept, tradition and innovation, or material and meaning. This exhibition showcases fiber art as a site of experimentation, examining how artists reimagine thread, fabric, rope, and other fibrous materials as vehicles for critical inquiry, spatial intervention, technological integration, or performative practice.

Bedford Field Notes: Bugs
Join us for a lively discussion about Bugs—the smallest, and possibly most critical, creatures in Bedford's ecosystem.
The evening will feature Dr. Jessica Ware, award-winning curator at the American Museum of Natural History where she serves as Chair of the Division of Invertebrate Zoology. The world of insects is far more fascinating—and far more important—than most of us realize. Dr. Ware will introduce us to the astonishing diversity of insects that share our landscapes, from bees and butterflies to dragonflies, beetles, and ants. She and Mianus River Gorge’s Dr. Chris Nagy will explain why these tiny creatures play an outsized role in healthy ecosystems—pollinating plants, recycling nutrients, and supporting the food web. Bedford residents will leave with a new sense of curiosity about the insects they encounter every day, and a clearer understanding of how our choices—from gardening to land stewardship—affect the smallest members of our local ecosystem. The event will close with audience Q&A.
Dr. Ware is the author of "Bugs (A Day in the Life): What Do Bees, Ants, and Dragonflies Get up to All Day?", a children's book about bugs. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Cocktail Party & Opening Reception: Art in Bloom
Art in Bloom is a juried exhibition featuring artists from the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association (KMAA) and local floral designers. The selected artworks will serve as the conceptual and visual point of departure for a floral design to be created in response to the artwork. Each pairing exists in dialogue, highlighting contrast, reinterpretation, and the dynamic relationship between permanence and impermanence as the floral works bloom and change over the course of the exhibition. Rather than treating the floral arrangements as decorative accompaniments, Art in Bloom positions them as interpretive responses that exist in active dialogue with the corresponding artwork on view. Juried by the Katonah Museum of Art’s Associate Curator Elizabeth Monti, the exhibition explores how ideas, materials, symbolism, and emotional tone translate between visual art and living, ephemeral forms.
Thursday, June 11, from 5:30-7:30 PM Cocktail Party and Opening Reception
Join us for a vibrant opening celebration of Art in Bloom, where inspiring works by KMAA artists come to life through stunning floral interpretations by acclaimed local designers. Enjoy an evening of wine, signature cocktails, light bites, and a captivating Flower Flash by Nichole Wilder of WildFig Floral as we toast the beauty of art and nature in full bloom.
Evening Includes wine, signature cocktails designed by Jill Bianco, light bites. We’re kicking off our Silent Auction with donations from celebrated local vendors, including Graze, LMNOP, oHHo, and more. Opportunities to bid on these exciting offerings continue through the exhibition.

Cult Classic: But I'm A Cheerleader (1999)
This whimsically edgy comedy follows teenager Megan (Natasha Lyonne), whose suburban existence, filled with friends, cheerleading, and all-American fun is upended when her straight-laced parents suspect she may be a lesbian. In a panic, they send her to True Directions, a ‘rehabilitation’ camp run by the strict and prudish Mary (Cathy Moriarty), to mount an intervention led by counselor Mike (RuPaul Charles). Megan dutifully follows the program — until she develops feelings for another camper in this timeless, satirical romantic-comedy about self-acceptance and love, costarring Michelle Williams, Clea DuVall, and Julie Delpy. Introduced by Programming Associate, Eliana Choi.

Elva: Art of Redemption
Elva: Art of Redemption tells the story of Lancaster County, PA Artist Elva Hurst's journey from the Old Order Mennonite Church. The movie introduces two local spiritual leaders, Pastor Timothy Wagner and Deacon William Bowen, who have small roles in the production and are spearheading the restoration work on the Cross River 1791 Meeting House. Wagner and Bowen presided at the funeral of the last member of the Cross River Meeting House this past July and received the keys to the historic property. Given the historic nature of the Meeting House dating to 1791 (William Jay signed the original articles of incorporation) it was felt that the property should be preserved. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the effort to save the Cross River 1791 Meeting House.

Classic Tuesday: Lust For Life (1956)
Vibrant orange sunflowers. Rippling yellow grain. Trees bursting with white bloom. "The pictures come to me as in a dream," Vincent Van Gogh said. A dream that too often turned to life-shattering nightmare. Winner of Golden Globe and New York Film Critics Best Actor Awards, Kirk Douglas gives a fierce portrayal as the artist torn between the joyous inspiration of his genius and the dark desperation of his tormented mind. The obsessed Van Gogh painted the way other men breathe, driving away family and friends, including artist Paul Gauguin (1956 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award winner Anthony Quinn). Directed by Vincente Minnelli and saturated with the hues of Van Gogh's sea, field and sky, Lust for Life captures the ecstasy of art. And the agony of one man's life.

WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS: AN EVENING WITH EMERSON, LAKE, AND PALMER
Created by Carl Palmer and his management, the show will be presented with the full cooperation of the Estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. THIS IS NOT A TRIBUTE ACT- THIS IS THE REAL THING. Through modern technology they will reunite the band: Carl with his two bandmates, playing together along with Keith Emerson & Greg Lake, who both passed away in 2016. The show combines video performance of Emerson and Lake from a legendary sold out ROYAL ALBERT HALL ELP show from 1992 with live on stage performances of Carl Palmer with his own ELP Legacy band (Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick).
All the musicians play together in sync to present a complete and authentic Emerson, Lake & Palmer show.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer (informally known as ELP) was an English progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1970. The band consisted of Keith Emerson (keyboards) of the Nice, Greg Lake of King Crimson (vocals, bass, guitar, producer), and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster (drums, percussion). With nine RIAA-certified gold record albums in the US and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide, they are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock groups of the 1970s, with a musical sound including adaptations of classical music with jazz and symphonic rock elements, dominated by Emerson’s flamboyant use of the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano (although Lake wrote several acoustic songs for the group).

Documentary Film + Q&A: Food Inc. 2 with Animal Legal Defense Fund
Presented in partnership with the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Food Inc. 2 is a timely and urgent follow-up to the Oscar-nominated documentary from directors Robert Kenner and Melissa Robledo. In the sequel, Kenner and Robledo reunite with investigative authors Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) to take a fresh look at our vulnerable food system. The groundbreaking Food Inc. ignited a cultural conversation about the multinational corporations that control our food system at enormous cost to our planet, workforce, and health. Food Inc. 2 comes “back for seconds” to reveal how corporate consolidation has gone unchecked by our government, leaving us with a highly efficient yet shockingly vulnerable food system dedicated only towards increasing profits. Seeking solutions, the film introduces innovative farmers, food producers, workers’ rights activists, and prominent legislators such as U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Jon Tester, who are facing these companies head-on and fighting to create a more sustainable future. A Q&A follows the film.
In Conversation with Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist Jodi Kantor

Yet she knows first steps are often rocky—she was once kicked off her college newspaper. With political upheaval, rising costs, and AI reshaping careers, young people face unprecedented uncertainty.
In How to Start, Kantor offers practical guidance, showing how pairing craft and need can help navigate career choices, risk, and money. This powerful, provocative talk offers wisdom, strategy, and inspiration for launching a meaningful career that lasts a lifetime.

"The Stories We Share"
New Castle Historical Society’s Diamond Jubilee Exhibition
On view April 18 – July 4
Be part of the history happening today as the New Castle Historical Society celebrates our 60th anniversary with The Stories We Share, on view April 18 – July 4. Since this local milestone coincides with America’s semiquincentennial, this exhibition of rarely-exhibited objects from the NCHS collection showcases New Castle stories from the Revolutionary era to today.
Original letters, diaries, ledgers, photographs, paintings, and everyday objects of yesteryear fill the rooms of the Greeley House, itself an integral piece of local history dating back to the early 1850s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of the key objects in the exhibition is the 1903 Patriotic Quilt by Sarah Griffith, which features dozens of hand-stitched figures and scenes from American History. From the earliest Quaker families to settle in this area and the agricultural economy that sustained local residents for over a century, to the arrival of the train, industrialization, global wars, and the establishment of today’s suburban community, this exhibition traces the history of New Castle through its people.
The exhibition includes a scavenger hunt for families, encouraging young visitors to discover unique historical objects and stories from the past that connect to life today. There is also an activity room on the upper floor where visitors of all ages can reflect upon the stories in the exhibition and share their own.
We hope you will find reflections of yourself, your family, your friends, and your neighbors reflected in the stories we share!
