Documentary: The Photography of Fred Stein
Out of Exile: The Photography of Fred Stein is the tale of a man caught up in one of history’s darkest moments; a man of conviction and courage, whose answer is to create an art that transcends bigotry.
The vibrant world of 1930s Paris; the heart-stopping suspense of fleeing across the French countryside; the crowds of refugees in Marseilles; the bustle of 1940s New York…these are some of the places that Out of Exile takes us as we follow Fred Stein’s perilous escape from the Nazis. And we are shown a cascade of brilliant photographs, full of breathless excitement, as Fred Stein discovers photography.
Throughout these experiences run the emotions: Fred Stein’s unfailing optimism in the face of hardship; his remarkable ability to connect to another person in his photographs; the dedication of his son, who, after Fred Stein’s name is forgotten, fights to bring his father’s work to the attention of the public; the power of art.
The photographs are beautiful and uplifting; the life is inspiring; together they form a powerful statement of the human spirit.

Washington Crossing the Delaware - a story told through painting & poetry
So much to be discussed!
In 1819, portrait painter Thomas Sully completed The Passage of the Delaware, the earliest known representation of the crossing. Unlike many later artists, Sully depicted the moment before George Washington began his passage: the general sits astride his white horse on the Pennsylvania side of the river, looking over his shoulder to observe his troops as they begin to cross. Calm and resolute, the central figure of Washington dwarfs the men under his command. In Sully’s composition, Washington remains isolated from the action, leading from above.

Kissing the Long Island mafia arrivederci, Angela starts over in Manhattan, finding a new job in a beauty salon, but Tony’s hot on her trail, still determined to make her his mob mistress. Featuring Live Music by the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra
New Canaan, CT — The holiday season is about to sparkle brighter than ever as the New England Academy of Dance (NEAD) and the New England Dance Theater (NEDT) present their 40th Anniversary production of The Nutcracker, a cherished community tradition that has brought generations of dancers and families together. This year’s milestone performances will once again feature the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Yates, bringing Tchaikovsky’s timeless score to life in a way that only live music can. As one of the few productions in the region to include a full orchestra, NEAD’s Nutcracker offers an unforgettable holiday experience full of music, magic, and memory.
A Legacy of Dance and Dedication

From the giggles of little Angels to the final elegant turns of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the ballet traces not only Clara’s dreamlike journey—but also the real-life growth of NEAD dancers as they rise through the ranks of roles over the years.
“The Nutcracker reflects our dancers’ journey,” says Ginna Ortiz, co-director of NEAD. “They don’t just perform, they grow up within this story. It’s where they find their joy, confidence, and artistic voice!”
The Magic of Live Music
Since 2018, the collaboration with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra has transformed NEAD’s Nutcracker into a musical and theatrical standout.

For many NEAD dancers, The Nutcracker is more than a performance, it’s a part of growing up.“I’ve danced in NEAD’s Nutcracker for 12 years, it’s been my home every December,” shares Chloe Perkins, senior dancer. “From my first role as a little Angel to now performing as a leading dancer, every step has been filled with love, friendship, and magic. Music at Grace Farms | Broadway Inspirational Voices
Broadway Inspirational Voices returns to Grace Farms with a site-responsive program that connects us with the presence of the human voice to inspire the audience toward joy. (60 minute performance, no intermission)
About Broadway Inspirational Voices
Broadway Inspirational Voices is a diverse choir and service organization powered by Broadway artists using music to inspire hope and change lives.
In 1994 more than 32,000 people died from AIDS or AIDS-related complications in the U.S. Many of those deaths came from within the Broadway community. As Broadway grappled with the loss of an entire generation of artists, Tony and Grammy-nominated Michael McElroy (founder of the Broadway Inspirational Voices) saw in the community a profound need for hope, unity, and inspiration. He envisioned an organization where professional artists would come together and volunteer their gift to provide comfort, joy, and the promise of a better day–and as a result, The Broadway Gospel Choir was born. This magical synergy of authentic Gospel soul and Broadway bravura was re-imagined as the Broadway Inspirational Voices in 1999 and they have been the theatre community’s center of support and celebration ever since. In 2019, The Tony Awards Administration Committee presented the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre to four outstanding contributors to the Broadway industry, and Broadway Inspirational Voices was a recipient. The Tony Honor was a resounding endorsement of Broadway Inspirational Voices’s enduring work and impact and in celebration of 25 years of service. In 2020, McElroy hand picked composer/singer Allen René Louis to become the new Artistic Director for Broadway Inspirational Voices. Broadway Inspirational Voices’s diverse membership has represented over 140 Broadway shows since its inception.

Documentary: The Nutcracker at Wethersfield
When the world shut down, an inspired choreographer took on an insurmountable challenge.
The Nutcracker at Wethersfield follows choreographer Troy Schumacher in the dark winter of 2020 as he dreams of an idea to save Christmas and put his fellow New York City Ballet dancers back to work. Set on the grounds of a magical Hudson Valley estate, Troy and his team of fellow artists face almost insurmountable challenges to create an unforgettable and immersive live experience between dancers and audience, who arrive as guests at the ballet’s most famous party scene to witness the Nutcracker like never before. We follow the dancers and their process, exploring their hopes and dreams as they push themselves to bring this vision to reality.
This is a film that celebrates the joy and value of art in our communities, and the magic of the holidays through the classic experience of the Nutcracker.

Documentary: The Librarians
As an unprecedented wave of book banning largely addressing race and LGBT issues is sparked in Texas, Florida, and beyond, librarians under siege join forces as unlikely defenders fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy.
Filmmaker Kim A. Snyder (Newtown, Us Kids, 2025 Oscar®-Nominated Death By Numbers) takes us to an unexpected front line where librarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy, free access to information, and our First Amendment Rights. As they well know, controlling the flow of ideas means control over communities.
In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories—triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of the groups fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work—the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.

Author Talk with Maureen Hogan Lutz
Storytelling is part of our DNA. It is common to every known culture from the beginning of time. Before humans could write, stories were handed down through the generations. Then came the printing press, the first novels, textbooks, newspapers, followed by the typewritten page and computer word processing. Fiction and non-fiction help us to understand our world.
There are writers here today whose work continues that thread of sharing what we know for those who come after us.
I’m sure there are many of you who have stories to tell. They are nestled in our hearts, bursting to get out. But where and how to start? Some memories are difficult to put on paper – that’s where fiction comes in.

Performance: Sarah Hennies and Tristan Kasten-Krause
Saturday, December 6, 2025 | 7 pm
$10 Members and Students; $15 General Admission
Join us for an intimate duo performance by composer and percussionist Sarah Hennies and bassist Tristan Kasten-Krause, presented in connection with Zak Prekop: Durations. Hennies and Kasten-Krause will present a 40-60 minute set of experimental music within the Museum’s galleries, offering a meditative, resonant experience that blurs the boundaries between sound, space, and visual art.
Sarah Hennies is known for her immersive and durational performances that explore psychoacoustic phenomena, queerness, and the act of listening. Her duo with Kasten-Krause combines sensitivity and restraint, crafting quiet, expansive works that unfold gradually over time.
This event is presented in conjunction with Zak Prekop: Durations (on view through January 11, 2026), an exhibition exploring visual rhythm, repetition, and the temporality of painting. It also marks the launch of Zak Prekop’s first museum publication. This fully illustrated, 32-page softcover catalogue features bold new abstract paintings by the artist, along with an interview between Prekop and curator Eduardo Andres Alfonso.
The catalogue will be available for purchase at the event.
