Bedford & New Canaan Magazine is the preeminent luxury lifestyle publication in Westchester and Fairfield Counties, serving a highly curated demographic in the New York and Connecticut area.
The magazine is a family business, owned and run by a dynamic father-daughter duo, Michael and Casey Kaplan, based out of North Salem and Pound Ridge, NY.
Casey grew up in Pound Ridge, and went to Tulane for college and Business school, where she created the largest food influencer brand in New Orleans - @NOLAgourmand, and ran international expansion for a leading research technology firm.
Michael is a ‘reformed attorney’ and ‘deal junky’. He made Partner at the age of only 27 at a big national law firm doing corporate M&A, finance and sports representation and agency. He has served as General Counsel for large real estate firms in Westchester, was the General Counsel of NASD-traded Individual Investor Group (which operated the Wisdom Tree family of hedge funds and indexes, and published Individual Investor magazine and its related then-first-of-its-kind website), he co-founded the chain Bestcellarsthat was sold to A&P - revolutionizing the retail wine industry, founded a company called Par-Tee Bag doing in-hand sampling, and was the founder and developer of what is now known as the Monticello Motor Club - the premier private automobile race track in the U.S.
Michael started writing for the then-16-year-old Bedford Magazine in 2017 as a fun hobby… and in May of 2020, at the height of the pandemic, received a call from the then-Owner and Publisher, offering to sell the magazine!
The magazine was already being mailed to most of Bedford and parts of Katonah, Pound Ridge, and North Salem. …Michael and Casey tripled the distribution, and started mailing to the 25,000 most affluent households in the area, including: every house in New Canaan and every house in Bedford, Armonk, Pound Ridge and Waccabuc, and; selected households in Darien, and Bedford Hills, Katonah, Mt. Kisco, North Salem, Pleasantville, and South Salem. …And later added Ridgefield.
The motto of the publication is: ‘Always Local! Always Positive!’ and the team works tirelessly to deliver interesting and relevant editorial content.
