Bedford Field Notes: Birds

  • Bedford Historical Hall 608 Old Post Road, Bedford, NY 10506 (map)

Join us for the kickoff of our second season of Bedford Field Notes on Wednesday, April 15th (6:00-8:00pm), with a lively discussion about Birds—among the most visible and beloved wildlife in Bedford. Tickets are available at BedfordFieldNotes.org.

The evening will feature Dr. Andrew Farnsworth of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. He is a bird migration expert and uses science to educate and engage audiences in conservation actions, notably regarding reducing light pollution impacts on nocturnally migrating birds. He's been involved with BirdCast, a tool for monitoring migration, and has also worked closely with Cornell's eBird and Merlin app teams.

Farnsworth, along with Mianus River Gorge’s Budd Veverka, will explore how birds can serve as a powerful lens on the health of our landscapes—revealing the richness of local biodiversity, the importance of different habitats, and the many ways wildlife and human communities coexist. Whether you’re an avid birder or simply someone who enjoys the sights and sounds of birds around your home, you’ll come away with a new appreciation for the role birds play in connecting us to the land. The event will close with audience Q&A.

The evening will be moderated by David Pogue, the Emmy Award–winning correspondent for "CBS Sunday Morning."
