he Hopp Ground Garden Club of Bedford is celebrating more than five decades of gardening, creativity and community service with a special flower show, “Celebrating Our 50th (+1) Anniversary,” at the Katonah Village Library.

The show will be open to the public on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, from Noon to 4 p.m. each day.  It’s free and all are welcome!

Founded in 1975, the Hopp Ground Garden Club takes its name from the meadow on the Bedford Village Green where wild hops once grew. For more than 50 years, the club has brought together people with a shared interest in the art of flower arranging, horticulture, and civic beautification.

The Flower Show Chair, Evelyn Tapani-Rosenthal says “Our show gives members a chance to showcase their creativity and love of gardening through beautiful floral designs and horticulture. It’s also a wonderful way to connect with the community, share what we know, and hopefully inspire others.” The event will include three divisions: Floral Design, Horticulture and Botanical Arts. The Floral Design division will include a variety of arrangements inspired by the club’s golden anniversary, while the Horticulture division will feature plants grown by club members, including flowering annuals and perennials, herbs, foliage plants and flowering container-grown plants. In Botanical Arts, members will show just how imaginative you can get with plant material by turning it into handcrafted jewelry. 

The flower show also offers an opportunity to learn more about the Hopp Ground Garden Club’s longstanding contributions to the community. Club members design and maintain public gardens at A-Home in Katonah, Bedford Hills Town Park, Bedford Village Town Park, John Jay Homestead, Katonah Memorial House and the Katonah Village Library. These gardens, along with the club’s educational programs and other community projects, have been an important part of Hopp Ground’s mission since its beginning.  To find out more, visit https://hoppgroundgardenclub.org/.
