Louis Cato’s journey to becoming bandleader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert began at age two on the drums, evolving through gospel roots in North Carolina to Berklee College of Music and, ultimately, New York City.
Now a Grammy-nominated, internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer, and songwriter, Cato has collaborated with artists like Bobby McFerrin, James Taylor, Q-Tip, Jon Batiste, and St. Vincent. After years supporting other artists, he stepped into the spotlight with his solo work, including Starting Now (2017), Reflections (2023), and Cato Covers, Vol. 1 (2024), followed by new singles in 2025.
Alongside his nightly role on The Late Show, he continues to tour and perform nationwide.
