See Elizabeth Taylor in her breakout role as Velvet, a teenager obsessed with horses and a dream to win England’s Grand National Steeplechase. After acquiring a spirited gelding in a raffle she names Pie, Velvet trains her new horse with the help of Mi Taylor (Mickey Rooney), a penniless drifter and former jockey. When a last-minute problem occurs before the race, Velvet climbs into the saddle and rides.

Produced in 1945 during Hollywood’s Golden Age, National Velvet was a blockbuster and critical success. This beloved film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry list of most inspirational movies.
