Let's Talk: Base Camp Parenting with Susan Bauerfeld & Chris Parrott
Relentless worry is currently the norm for parents. While concern about important issues is certainly beneficial, worrying about them is not. But, worrying can be a hard habit to break, even though it often causes added stress and anxiety in the home. In Base Camp Parenting: Worry Less to Help Your Kids More, Susan Bauerfeld and Chris Parrott give parents the tools necessary to shift away from worrying. They discuss the adverse impact of parental worrying on “Base Camp”--the environment in which children are raised--and show how shifting attention away from worried thinking is crucial to overall health and well-being. In addition, they provide parents with an easy-to-implement four-step process that leaves families calmer, more connected, and better prepared to handle situations as they arise. By following this process, parents model how best to cope with the stress and anxiety of everyday life, leading their children to become more resilient, capable, and healthy. In a culture where worry is often worn like a badge of honor, Base Camp Parenting is a rallying cry for change, delivering a clear, compassionate roadmap for breaking the worry cycle and building a happier, healthier home.

Ridgefield History Club Explores Stonehenge Inn’s Golden Age
The glamour and excitement of Ridgefield’s famed Stonehenge Inn during the 1950s will be the focus of the Ridgefield History Club on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. at the Ridgefield Historical Society’s Scott House, 4 Sunset Lane. Historical Society board member Keith Russell will lead an illustrated group discussion, “Clarence Korker’s The Golden Age of Stonehenge – The 1950s,” featuring recently digitized photographs of the inn’s celebrated guests, staff and social life, including entertainers Judy Garland and Jackie Cooper.
Judy Garland and husband Sid Luft at the Stonehenge Inn, Ridgefield, CT, c. 1950s. Photo by Clarence “Korky” Korker.
Clarence “Korky” Korker documented Ridgefield from the mid- to late 20th century through thousands of photographs and negatives. After retiring, he donated his extensive collection to the Ridgefield Historical Society. Russell has been gradually digitizing the images and adding them to the Society’s online archive. The collection ranges from portraits, weddings and community gatherings to streetscapes, commercial buildings and celebrities visiting Stonehenge Inn.
The Ridgefield History Club is an informal community storytelling program of the Ridgefield Historical Society. The group meets for an hour on the third Tuesday of every month to explore a specific topic in Ridgefield’s history through shared conversation.
Each session is recorded and cataloged in the Historical Society’s archive to preserve these stories for future generations. The program is also streamed live on Facebook and uploaded to the Society’s YouTube channel. Everyone is invited—just bring your curiosity and love of history. Some attend every month, while others join when a topic holds special meaning for them. Longtime Ridgefield residents and newcomers alike are welcome. This free program is a wonderful way to connect with others and discover new insights into the town’s heritage.

The Last Picture Shows
Ten states. 10,825 miles. 123 theaters. Filmmaker Rustin Thompson journeys into the American West on a search for traces of what was once a center of small-town life: the movie theater. On the trip, he finds long abandoned and forgotten cinemas; movie houses that have fallen into disrepair; theaters recently closed, theaters struggling to hold on, and theaters that—thanks to their thoughtful caretakers—are not only surviving but thriving. Between the stops along the way, Rustin poetically intersperses excerpts from Peter Bogdanovich’s 1971 classic film The Last Picture Show, as well as reflections on past and present hardships facing the film exhibition industry. The Last Picture Shows is not only a timely portrait of an industry in crisis, one facing the headwinds of consolidation, streaming, and the diminishing theatrical experience, but it also reminds viewers that even in vast cinema deserts, there are oases of community and gathering that remain, where the movie house continues to be a place of wonder, contemplation, and connection.
